Accessibility

Effective September 17, 2026

The Arkansas Coalition of Appraisers wants this website to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, need larger text, or cannot easily distinguish certain colors.

What we aim for

We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That is the standard most commonly used to judge whether a website is accessible, and it is the one we measure ourselves against.

What we have done

  • Color and contrast. Every text and background pairing on the site has been measured against the WCAG AA thresholds rather than eyeballed. The navy-on-white body text measures roughly 13:1, well beyond the 4.5:1 required. Buttons, links and the county map were all re-worked so that nothing on the site relies on color alone to carry meaning.
  • Keyboard use. The navigation, forms, buttons and county map can be reached and operated without a mouse, and the focus outline is visible rather than suppressed.
  • Structure. Pages use real headings in order, real lists and real form labels, so that a screen reader can announce the shape of a page instead of reading it as one undifferentiated block.
  • Images. Photographs and the ARCOA seal carry text alternatives; purely decorative images are marked so that assistive software skips them.
  • Text size and zoom. Text is set in relative units and the layout reflows to a single column on small screens, so enlarging text or zooming the page does not cut anything off.
  • Forms. Every field has a visible label rather than a placeholder standing in for one, required fields are marked in text as well as color, and errors are explained in words.

Where we know we fall short

We would rather tell you than let you find out.

  • PDF documents. The bylaws and other documents on the Resources page are PDFs that were not produced with tagging for screen readers. If you need any of them in an accessible format, ask and we will get the content to you in one.
  • The county map. The interactive map of Arkansas’s 75 counties is a genuinely visual tool, and although it can be operated by keyboard, it is not the easiest way to use the directory with a screen reader. The same information is available without the map: the Find an Appraiser page lists every member beneath it, and each member’s entry names the counties they cover in words. If that route proves awkward, we want to know.
  • Member-supplied content. Biographies and photographs come from members. We check what we publish, but we may miss something.

Tell us if something does not work

This is the part that matters. If any page, form or document on this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us โ€” including what you were trying to do and what happened. We will aim to reply within five business days, and we will get you the information you were after by another route in the meantime.

We treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a box that has been ticked, and this page will be updated as the site changes.
